Chiang Mai Trip - Day 2

Sawadeekap people!

This is what we did for Day 2:
- Cooking Class
- Head to Old City
- Massage
- Sunday Walking Street
__________________________________________________________

Our Day 2 started with a cooking class!
You might be teasing or laughing at us for joining a class,
But we both really do enjoy cooking and Thai food,
And lucky for us, the food we made turned out really good! =)

We signed up for Siam Rice Thai Cooking School.
We contacted them via email before our trip and paid only after the class.

The sessions were:
- Half Day Class - 700 baht - Five dishes. 8.30am - 1.30pm
- Full Day Class - 900 baht - Seven dishes  8.30am - 2.30pm

Being the smart people we are,
We opted for the second choice (as bolded above).

WORST DECISION EVER
___________________________________________________________

Not because it wasn't good or anything, we just didn't think things through,
And that we'd have to eat all seven dishes in under 4 hours.

So, in total there are 7 sections:
1. Soup
2. Noodles
3. Appetizer
4. Stir Fried Vegetables
5. Make Curry Paste
6. Curry (from Curry paste)
7. Thai Dessert

The difference between half day class & full day class is #3 & #4.
So you won't be missing much if you take the half day class, don't worry.

The day starts off with the teacher bringing us to the market,
She introduces the ingredients we're gonna use in the class.
Some of which is uncommon in Malaysia.

After the visit to the market,
We head to the house where the classes are gonna take place.

(But she should have said we had that option earlier)

After we were done, we asked them to drop us off in the Old City.
Day 2 was a Sunday, so Chiang Mai has a wonderful Night Market every Sunday here.
It starts from ThaPae Gate all the way down Rachamankha Road.
The stalls go into the small alleys as well.

So, we took the whole afternoon exploring the Old City.
I used Sawasdee Chiang Mai - Easy Walking Map the whole time we were there.
It's a life saver!!!

It looks like this, and I got mine from my hotel.

The boxed up in blue is the "Old City"
Everything out from that is the "New City"
There's a moat around the old city, so you can see old ruins,
Especially the corners and the gate itself (North, East, South, West).
I found out later that night on google that they have been rebuilt according to pictures from the past.
I feel so cheated =p
Here's where you can get the map

There's soooo many wats (temples) in the Old City,
That you would take at least 1-2 full days to explore it all (if you plan it well),
But the one's you CANNOT miss are:
Wat Chedi Luang & Wat Phra Singh

On this day, we visited Wat Phra Singh.
And like all amazing landmarks, there's a lot of tourist (me included, heh)

Tha Pha Gate (Eastern Gate)

Grabbed a cup of Hot White Mocha
in Wawee Coffee

This is a beautiful relic; in Wat Umong

Wat Phra Sing
This is near the Western Gate

We were lucky enough to catch the chanting

After a quick visit, the stalls were starting to be set up all around.
But it was still drizzling and we had been walking the whole afternoon,
So... we went for a massage!

We found a great parlour called "Lila Thai Massage".
They have 6 branches and we visited the one at Phra Singh.
We signed up for the Lila Package that was 2 hours long at 550baht.

Highly Recommend this place!!!

After the massage, it's shopping time!

Khao Soi

Seafood Pad Thai - 60 baht

Grilled Squid - 150baht

Banana Nutella - 35baht
They made the waffle earlier on, and just reheat it when you order them,
So the waffle is very soggy.
After buying this one, I noticed that many other stalls do the same :(

That's the end of Day 2!
Let's welcome Day 3 with a roar in the next post ;)
